For Making Tax Digital, online accounting is a must. Xero is the world’s leading online accountancy platform, already helping more than 250,000 businesses to make the most of their financial data.

We love it too – it’s something that can grow beautifully with your business and it’s easy to use. We can either give you full access to Xero so that you can do some of your bookkeeping/accounting yourself, or ‘read-only’ access whereby we do everything for you and you can check it 24/7.

How we’ll use Xero to help you

Here are some of our key services:

  • Debt collection and client relations. We’ll set up Xero to do invoice reminders for you automatically. If you have outstanding debts, we can manually chase those up too, including taking legal action if we need to. We’ll make sure customers are chased up professionally and sensitively to get cash into your bank account while maintaining relationships.
  • Posting purchase invoices. We use revolutionary software, which gives you an email address that all your suppliers can email your invoices into directly, or you can forward them. We’ll log in regularly and post those invoices into your Xero accounting system so your payables list is always up to date.
  • Supplier payments and relations. We’ll use our experience to manage suppliers to get you the best possible payment terms and then log in to your online banking to set up the payment, ready for your approval.
  • Paying staff salaries and expenses. We’ll make the monthly/weekly pay run to pay all of your staff salaries and expenses so you don’t need to worry about finding the time to make sure this vital process is carried out on time.
  • Bookkeeping. We’ll log in to your Xero accounting system regularly and reconcile the bank transactions so you can rely on the accuracy of the up-to-date information.

From 1 April 2019, MTD applies to VAT-registered businesses over the VAT threshold (with a very few exceptions). If this includes your business, it’s time to get everything in place if you haven’t already.

You’ll have to register and make provision for submitting your returns digitally through third party software (like Xero) – HMRC won’t be accepting VAT returns through their gov.uk website.

Managing the CIS system can be a hassle and, of course, has to be compliant. We’ve invested in software to create a portal you can use to take the pressure off you, managing everything for your full compliance.

It can be set up so that all workers have access to it to see what they’ve been paid and what tax they’ve had deducted, for peace of mind that they’re doing it correctly. It saves you time because you don’t have to field enquiries from workers as they’ll get a text and an email to tell them everything is done. They don’t have to wait for ages for the information at year end – it’s pretty much uploaded straightaway so they can apply for any tax rebate.
