Meet our Co-Founder – Zeta
We talk to Zeta Hewings to find out what makes one-half of the Zoo Accounting directorship tick.
When you hit on a great match with someone, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; And this is certainly true of our Directors Zeta Hewings and Wayne McCormack.
She’s the Makepeace to his Dempsey; he – the yin to her yang (or is it the other way round?) anyway…it’s their differences and unique viewpoints on life and business that when fused together make for something pretty special.
Since forming Zoo Accounting with Wayne in 2017, Zeta’s made a measurable impact on the lives of our clients; supporting their business growth with a calm and considered approach that perfectly balances Wayne’s visionary style.
Despite calling the business ‘Zoo’, you might be surprised to learn that Zeta is terrified of all animals, with dogs being her nemesis. In her own words: “A walk in the park is not a walk in the park for me!”. So, Zeta is an unlikely zoo-keeper – but a formidable force when it comes to getting the most out of your finances.
Her unlikely (yet strangely effective) pairing with Wayne began nine years ago. Zeta explains:
“It was actually my first job in accountancy, I was the general dog’s body, and Wayne was (technically) my boss which he loves to throw back at me! Although within 2 years I’d been promoted twice and was the same level as him. Another year passed and we were both promoted to manage the company’s finance team together. After five years, we decided to go it alone.”
Whilst Wayne might be the more ‘vocal’ of the partnership, Zeta provides a detail-driven, and considered approach which clients love. She’s noticed that when new clients come on board they say it’s often as a direct result of seeing the dynamic between Wayne and Zeta in the meeting room: “How we play off each other, the way we have completely different personalities…sets us apart.”
“It’s Wayne’s phone that’s always ringing with people wanting to sound out ideas and discuss their big visions, and it will be me behind the scenes putting all the details together.”
“When it comes to our business though, our passions are very much aligned; Our goals are very similar – but how we get there comes from completely different directions and we somehow meet in the middle.”
It’s this winning combination of skills and personalities that’s not only key to Zoo’s success but also adds value for clients – many of whom are hard-working business owners running the show on their own. Often, injecting a bit more ‘Zeta’ or a bit more ‘Wayne’ readdresses the balance and helps them to get the most out of their experience, and maximise their business results.
Above all, the thing that really makes Zeta tick is seeing how happy our clients are – “It’s when a client tells us at the end of a meeting that it was brilliant and they feel really supported, that’s so rewarding.”
It’s this job satisfaction – of making a difference to people’s lives and businesses that is the driving force behind Zeta, and Zoo’s success.

- If she had a super-power she would see into the future – so she could make you even richer
- At 12 years old she learned to play the cello
- Zeta once applied to be an analyst for the MI5 – (Q to Wayne’s 007?)
- She also applied to be an air traffic controller, and puts this all down to a phase in her life when “I just liked doing tests”.
- In her family, Zeta’s nickname is…’ZOO’!
